U.S. Congressional District II Candidates to Debate Environmental Issues

What: Candidates Forum – Nebraska’s Second District Congressional seat

: Thursday, March 22 at 7 p.m.
Location:  First United Methodist Church, 7020 Cass St., Omaha

All candidates, Republican and Democrat, have been invited to the forum to discuss environmental issues important to this area. John Ewing, Gwen Howard, Jack Heidel and Glenn Freeman have committed to attend. Lee Terry and Paul Anderson declined. It is unknown if Bret Lindstrom will attend.

The forum is sponsored by the Missouri Valley Group (Nebraska Chapter) of the Sierra Club and the Nebraska League of Conservation Voters.  County Commissioner Clare Duda is scheduled to moderate the forum.  Michael McClellan, Dave Newell and Dale Gubbles are coordinators for the event.

Debate Format: Candidates will be allowed two minutes each to introduce themselves and make an opening statement. Each candidate will be asked to address several questions or topics that were provided in advance. There may be some follow-up from those attending, depending on time.

Planned topics are: How can the federal government protect the environment; Clean energy; Conservation for Wild Life and Wild Lands; Transportation.

The environment is one of the most pressing issues facing Nebraska voters. Voters need to learn what their candidate’s positions are. Please plan to attend this forum!

Both Republican and Democratic candidates for the office of Nebraska District II Representative to U.S.Congress will debate environmental issues at the March program of the MoValley Group of the Nebraska Sierra Club.  Douglas County Commissioner, Clare Duda, has generously agreed to serve as moderator for the event.

There are two Democratic candidates running in the primary election (May 15) and five Republican candidates. The candidates (taken from Nebraska Secretary of State website) are:
